Work type: Full Time (Permanent) 38 hours per week

Schedule: Expected to work various shifts, predominantly 5:30am - 11:00pm Monday-Sunday. Participation in a 24hr and public holiday roster may also be required as per operational demand.

QML Pathology is part of Healius' Pathology division, one of Australia's leading providers of private medical laboratory and pathology services. We operate about 100 medical laboratories and 2,000 patient collection centres across metropolitan, regional and remote Australia. Each year, we provide one in every three pathology services in Australia, extending from exclusively servicing some of Australia's largest and most complex private and public hospitals to small and remote Australian Aboriginal communities.

About the role

We are seeking a Multidisciplinary Relief Scientist across Metro Brisbane and in regional Queensland and Tasmania, who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team who will be responsible for:

  • Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
  • Performing all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis
  • Assisting with Stock Control
  • Compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
  • Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols
  • Maintaining current scientific knowledge 
  • Participation in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
  • Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
  • Compliance and adherence with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes. 

About you

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (AIMS accredited) or equivalent
  • Experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the respective discipline wouls be an advantage although not mandatory
  • Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification 
  • Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision 
  • An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
  • A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment
  • Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases
  • A current and valid Driver's License is required
