About the Role
We are on the hunt for an accomplished Reporter to join our innovative Tasmanian news team, based in Launceston. You will work across the ABC’s digital and broadcast news platforms, in collaboration with the local and state team and contribute to coverage for audiences in Tasmania and across the country.
Reporting to the Editor, ABC Northern Tasmania, you will:
- Create accurate, concise and clear news content.
- Deliver digital news content, across audio, video and online.
- Deliver original stories with impact, to achieve strong reach and engagement with audiences.
- Contribute to the implementation of the Local Emergency Coverage plan
About You
To join this team, you will need to be a highly motivated reporter with a strong knowledge of local and national news issues. You will bring:
- Proven reporting, research and journalism skills.
- Experience in, or willingness to learn, television reporting, video journalism or video news production.
- Experience producing digital news and social media content.
- A history of developing contacts and breaking news.
You will be a proactive self-starter who is able to work effectively in a small team and embrace the brief to deliver agenda setting coverage that elevates Tasmanian stories across the ABC. Critical for this role is the ability to exercise sound editorial judgement and make good decisions under pressure.
Launceston, Tasmania’s second largest city, is a designated UNESCO city of gastronomy and a gateway to the state’s famed wilderness areas. One of the country's oldest settlements it has a striking cityscape of architectural styles from Georgian to mid-20th century, and is home to the Cataract Gorge, a natural drawcard just a 15-minute walk from the city. The region is home to artisan beers and spirits, wineries, music festivals and the largest collection of Salvador Dali on paper art works.
