Job TitleResearch Assistant – Centre for Dynamic ImagingJob DescriptionAn excellent opportunity is available for a Research Assistant to join the Centre for Dynamic Imaging in the Advanced Technology and Biology Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.About the PositionWe are seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to be part of our team, who will provide training and support to staff and students in advanced microscopy, including advice on experimental design and troubleshooting for researchers in widefield, confocal, light sheet and super-resolution microscopy techniques. The successful candidate will also provide support to postdoctoral researchers in the lab for the optimization of antibody or gene panels and the experimental acquisition of data for 3D multiplexing and spatial omics research.A BSc with Honours or Masters is essential, with training in the Biological Sciences or relevant area of study. The candidate is expected to have a minimum of two years’ experience in tissue preparation techniques and in the immunofluorescence / immunohistochemical staining of tissues, particularly from mouse tissues and/or human tissues. As a minimum, candidates should have experience in one of the following, confocal microscopy, widefield microscopy or in the use of a fluorescence slide scanner, or in the use of spatial omics technologies. We are willing to consider exceptional candidates with limited microscopy experience who have an adeptness at quickly learning and applying new techniques. Especially scientifically trained individuals who have a passion for the biomedical sciences and who are highly motivated to work with staff and students to assist them to undertake imaging research at the highest level. The successful candidate would be responsible for ensuring the equipment is well maintained and operates optimally. This includes tracking instrument performance through quality control, and by maintaining records and other documentation related to standard operating procedures, laboratory safety and regulations. They will also ensure the facility environment is tidy and general consumables are kept stocked. The Research Assistant may also be required to liaise with company representatives and to respond to general enquiries.The Research Assistant is expected to: Provide a continuous and reliable service to a multidisciplinary range of researchers, such as assistance and training in sample preparation and image capture. Work closely with postdoctoral scientists in the lab to perform experiments and analyse spatial-OMIC data.Work closely with postdoctoral scientists in the lab to evaluate, optimise and implement new methods within the core. Have knowledge regarding the operation of laser scanning confocals, fluorescence slide scanners, spatial omics technologies or other advanced imaging equipment within the facility. Be highly organized and have meticulous attention to detail. Be proactive about equipment maintenance and in ensuring the facility provides a high quality of service. Assist in the creation of processes and documentation for routine operations within the facility.Selection CriteriaEssential Knowledge and Skills:A Bachelor of Science with Honours or Masters in an appropriate…
