Overview
The Research Assistant will assist the senior researchers to conduct high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs, with mentorship from leaders within the research team.
The position is located within the Psychosis Research Group to support the Theme Lead of Mental Health and Neurosciences and the Psychosis Research Project Coordinator in expanding and enhancing psychosis research. The incumbent will contribute participant recruitment and assessments, applications to Ethics Committees, activities related to governance of studies, outreach activities to mental health clinicians and researchers, and writing of reports and academic papers.
As a Research Assistant you will:
- Assisting with recruitment and follow-up of research participants
- Conducting interviews and cognitive assessments of research participants
- Collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, including questionnaires and interview transcripts.
- Liaising with mental health researchers, relevant departments in Mental Health, staff from multi-disciplinary teams, consumer groups, external facilities and community agencies.
- Assisting with monitoring and reporting of adverse events and other major reporting requirements.
- Assisting the research team with preparation, review, and maintenance of study documentation, including but not limited to, ethical and other governance and regulatory documentation; study protocols; standard operating procedures and training manuals; and any other relevant documentation.
To be successful, you'll have:
- Completion of a minimum Bachelor's degree with Honours in psychology, biomedicine, nursing, nutrition, dietetics or other health-related discipline
- Demonstrated sensitivity and respect for patients and research participants.
- Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- A demonstrated awareness of the principles of confidentiality, privacy and information handling.
- Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills with proven ability to effectively analyse information and produce clear, succinct reports and documents which requires interaction with others.
- Exceptional record keeping skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated organisational skills including the demonstrated ability to maintain a high standard of data record keeping and a demonstrated ability to meet competing deadlines.
- The ability to maintain effective working relationships in an environment which is often pressured and characterised by competing demands
- Experience working with a clinical population, especially mental disorders (Desirable)
- Experience recruiting participants to research studies (Desirable)
- Familiarity with research databases (e.g., REDCap and Qualtrics) (Desirable)
- Experience using data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, R Studio) (Desirable)
