Job description

Maternal Health

Are you interested in a new challenge and keen to develop or strengthen your clinical skills?

Do you have an understanding of health issues affecting First Nations Australians and have experience working with research participants, patients or community members?

If this sounds like you, join our team of research professionals!

Be part of an exciting opportunity!

Menzies School of Health Research is looking to engage a Research Midwife/Research Nurse to be part of the Maternal Health Research Study team.

The Research Midwife/Research Nurse will be part of the GLU study which aims to develop new approaches to identify pregnant First Nations women at risk of preterm birth based on vaginal microbial biomarkers evaluated in early to mid-gestation, and ensure that the research study meets standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, including informed consent, participant eligibility assessment, and adverse event monitoring.

The successful applicant will receive education and training prior to conducting any research activities, and will be responsible for participant recruitment, clinical data and specimen collection, and follow-up visits according to the Study Protocol and Standard Operating Procedures.

This position is based in Darwin and the successful applicant will be required to travel to remote communities across the Top End of the Northern Territory via light aircraft and/or 4WD for up to 3 days per trip, and up to 8 trips per year.

What you will bring to the role:

As a star candidate and qualified health professional, you will have tertiary qualifications in midwifery or nursing with relevant proven clinical experience in either a hospital or community-based health service and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

The successful applicant will also have exceptional written and communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations, and the ability to work collaboratively with health professionals and academic colleagues. This position requires the ability to work sensitively in multicultural and multidisciplinary settings with the skills to engage and communicate with First Nations peoples.
