The Role:
We have several vacancies open for an experienced Senior female Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Research Nurse to join the Deadly Ears in Deadly Hands team or the Azithromycin at Birth team.
The Deadly Ears in Deadly Hands team are aiming to produce the evidence that First Nations Health Professionals have a measurable impact in the Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) paediatric wards, by conducting ear exams and then providing culturally appropriate support and health education for children and their families. We are recruiting a Team Leader with leadership experience to manage, but also work within our team to carry out the study clinical assessments, collect samples, collect data and data entry.
The Azithromycin at Birth team are aiming to find out if a dose of oral azithromycin given before birth will reduce the rate of bacterial infections in mothers and babies. We are looking for a Senior Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Research Nurse to join the team to talk to pregnant women at Royal Darwin Hospital and involve them in our study and then follow-up the mums and bubs after birth. They will carry out clinical assessments, collect samples, collect data and data entry.
You will be joining friendly and supportive teams, with all necessary training provided on any research and clinical methods you will need.
What you will bring to the role
As an enthusiastic, qualified Senior Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Registered Nurse, you will have relevant tertiary qualifications, and extensive experience working in a medical field.
You will have:
- Tertiary qualification with relevant proven clinical experience and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Strong leadership skills and team management experience (for Deadly Ears in Deadly Hands team only).
- Demonstrated experience working in child health or in a remote Indigenous community health environment, hospital, or health service setting.
- The ability to approach and yarn with women and families in clinics and on the wards to assess if they are suitable and ensure that they have a full understanding of the requirements of the study.
- The ability to conduct clinical assessments, data collection, medical record checks, and collect and transport specimens for the study.
- The ability to organise and conduct follow up visits in the hospital, in clinic, community and at home (sometimes potentially requiring travel to remote communities via light aircraft or 4WD)

The benefits:
- Base salary RN 2/ PAT 7, $96,260 - $104,463 per annum, pro-rata (total remuneration salary package including superannuation $120,881 – 130,232 per annum, pro-rata).
- Indigenous Knowledge Allowance $3,236 per annum, pro-rata (IKA2).
- 6 weeks annual leave.
