Job TitleResearch OfficerJob DescriptionAn excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer to join the Ubiquitin Signaling and Infectious Diseases and Immune Defense Divisions, at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.  About the Position The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI) in Melbourne is Australia’s pre-eminent medical research institute. A long-established, core strength of WEHI is its research in parasitology, with its Infectious Diseases and Immune Defence (ID2) Division hosting multiple globally leading labs tackling malaria and toxoplasmosis.

The Ubiquitin Signalling (UbS) Division at WEHI was established in 2018, and features 5 labs working in a collaborative environment, at the forefront of mechanistic and disease-relevant ubiquitin research. Both Divisions feature a continuous stream of excellent publications, and have access to prime facilities at WEHI and beyond, including state-of-the art facilities in proteomics, metabolomics, structural biology, biophysics, cell manipulation (CRISPR) and imaging facilities. Model systems for numerous parasites are established on-site.

  The Komander lab within UbS and the Tonkin lab within ID2, seek to appoint a Research Officer (Postdoc) skilled in ubiquitin signalling, mass-spectrometry and/or parasitology. Based on exciting preliminary data and newly developed protocols, the cross-divisional postdoc based in UbS labs will establish techniques related to ubiquitin mass-spectrometry and apply these to parasites, especially Toxoplasma gondii. Excellent scientific outputs are expected within the 2-year contract duration.

  Selection CriteriaWe are looking for a highly motivated individual, that has a strong background in proteomic methodologies and their analysis. This person will have a PhD (or equivalent) and have extensive experience in mass spectrometry, substantiated by at least one first author publication. Experience in mammalian cellular techniques and ubiquitin biology is highly advantageous.

Experience in parasitology is an advantage.   Terms of AppointmentThis position is available for 2 years in the first instance in a full-time capacity. Salary is Research Employee Level A ($85,628 - 104,281).
