The Research Scientist – Molecular Genetics will perform research on and analysis of genomic data, working across a wide range of species and projects as part of a world leading collaborative program of research to support Australian agricultural industries. You will be required to provide a substantial individual contribution to the science of the Molecular Genetics group, through cutting-edge research in the areas of functional genetics and genomics applied to plants.
The role will focus on the development and enhancement of genomic resources through functional genomic analysis. This will include the detection and priositisation of genomic variants, development of functional genotyping assays, analysis of various functional data sets including gene expression analysis across time and treatment, analysis of patterns of methylation and repeat elements, and various transcriptomics. The role will also include the analysis of complex genomes and in-depth analysis of associated large genomic datasets, and the development of bioinformatics pipelines and tools for routine use, and so will require a strong understanding and familiarity with sequencing and bioinformatics.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- A PhD in Animal or Plant Breeding, Genetics, Quantitative Genetics, Statistical Genomics, Bioinformatics, Functional Genomics, or a related science discipline is required.
To be successful in this role, you will have knowledge and/or experience in functional genomics along with the implementation and analysis of sequencing and genotyping technologies. If you posess in-depth experience and demonstratable capability in the development of computational tools and pipelines for the analysis of genomic data, then this could be the position for you.
This is a fixed term position available for a period of 12 months. The work location for this position is AgriBio Bundoora with hybrid work arrangements available.
