Located in the picturesque Dandenong Ranges, Puffing Billy Railway, a Victorian State entity, is Australia's premier preserved steam railway. Operating on the original mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook, this century-old train offers a range of fun-filled experiences for visitors young and old.

A major tourist attraction, Puffing Billy Railway continues to be a popular destination for visitors, thanks to the tireless efforts of a team of dedicated staff and over 300 volunteers. 

About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Reservations Agent to join our small on-site Customer Service team based at Belgrave. Reporting to the Customer Service Supervisor, this position will provide exceptional customer service to all stakeholders who encounter Puffing Billy Railway.  This role focuses on phone, online and in person customer communications in arranging bookings, responding to enquiries and promoting Puffing Billy Railway experiences.

As a 7 day a week business we are looking for people who are available to work weekends on a regular rotating roster.

Some of the day-to-day responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Manage requirements for individual and group booking using electronic and manual systems – record booking, confirmation, arrange payment etc
  • Manage bookings and liaise with the Marketing, Events and Commercial departments for special events and catered trains 
  • Understand and promote all Puffing Billy experiences, events, promotions and offers including those at the Puffing Billy Railway Lakeside Visitor Centre

About You

To be considered for this position you will have a background in a high volume reservations environment or fast paced customer service role. You must be a team player, flexible and willing to learn.

This is a very busy role that may require you to work across multiple tasks at any given time, so strong time management skills and a flexible approach to your work will be key to  success. 

You will be a person who is outgoing, enjoys the buzz of a fast-paced role and is not easily flustered. Your interactions with your colleagues and customers will be highly professional.  You will demonstrate patience when communicating with customers from a range of backgrounds. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are what we are seeking. The ability to speak a second language will be highly regarded.
