Job description

At Safe Places, we are privileged with being entrusted to help care for and provide a home to young people in need. With this privilege is the responsibility to provide a home that is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, comfort, safety and homeliness. Our young people have complex needs, so our small, stable teams provide intensive therapeutic support and consciously and consistently uphold our high standards.

Our Youth Workers bring a genuine passion to make a difference in the lives of young people and our communities. Since opening our doors in 2006, we have made a difference in the lives of more than 1800 young people.

Our Values
United, Supportive, Responsive, Passionate and Professional.

Our Benefits

  • Paid 3-week induction program starting 15th April.
  • Opportunities to develop & advance your career with internal promotions and further training.
  • Work vehicle provided on shift.
  • 6 weeks annual leave
  • Access to annual bonus & generous salary packaging options
  • Above-award wage rates
  • Working with an inclusive and valued workforce

The Opportunity

We are looking for passionate Youth Workers to work directly with young people who are vulnerable and in need of assistance.

You will be the person in their lives to help them build life skills, healthy attachments, and most importantly be there for them when they need you the most. You will work through tough times and challenges together, knowing that the ultimate outcome is guiding them to live a fulfilled and independent life.

Advocating for a young person’s sense of belonging while encouraging their independence is a deeply rewarding career path.

Travel around the Logan region will be essential for this role.

This role is for full-time employment and requires availability across 7 days. We operate a roster of 5 x 24-hours shifts per fortnight.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building rapport and trust with young people, acting as a role model with residential house duties.

  • Navigate through their personal challenges, providing both emotional & professional support in collaboration with the team of Youth Workers, Case Managers, and other relevant community services.

  • Help engage in post-crisis support functions to better support young people with complex needs and behaviours.

How We Support You

Safe Places for Children offers a comprehensive induction program that encompasses classroom, online and on-the-job training.  The induction program is designed to provide qualified Youth Workers with a solid understanding of a ‘day in the life’ of a Youth Worker at Safe Places as well as the skills, knowledge, and practice, to work within our Integrated Practice Framework.

Due to the trauma sensitive work of our Youth Workers, we require our inductee Youth Workers to successfully complete the Induction Program before they can be assigned to a young person.  As such, employment offers are made on a casual basis and following the successful completion of the Induction Program, permanent, full-time offers are made. Candidates will need to be available to attend the Induction Program which will take approximately 3 weeks.

About you
To be successful in this role you will need to have:

  • Demonstrated ability to openly engage and build trust with young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Implement strategies and tactics to mentor and teach our youth necessary life skills.
  • Maintain a level of grit and resilience to overcome challenges that are confronting.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver results.
  • Hold and maintain a full Australian Driver's License
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
  • Hold a Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or equivalent.

Please apply if you meet the above criteria and our team will be in touch.

We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates to apply and are an inclusive employer.  Please visit our website to find additional information and benefits of working at Safe Places for Children.
