About the role

We are currently looking for Responsible Dams Engineer to join our Process Engineering & Major Hazards team. Working within a close-knit internal network of tailings professionals and industry experts, you will be responsible for providing technical and operational support to project and site teams ensuring the safe and efficient operation of tailings and water storage facilities. You will collaborate with site leadership and other technical teams to ensure tailings storage facility integrity is maintained and the operations of tailings storage facilities is in accordance with the design intent and operational plan.

This role is a great opportunity to contribute to the successful stewardship of a significant portfolio of tailings and water storage facilities and work across a large business whilst extending your professional development and experience. 

Reporting to the Manager Tailings & Dams, you will:

  • Assume technical leadership for an assigned portfolio of tailings storage facilities and/or dams, sharing accountability for integrity of these assets with an appointed site manager
  • Lead the Engineer of Record, appointed from external engineering firms, with respect to ongoing support for the operation and maintenance of assigned assets
  • Lead governance of operations, surveillance and maintenance of assigned assets
  • Undertake dam safety activities, such as inspection and review of monitoring data
  • Develop and own the Operational Maintenance and Surveillance manual for assigned tailings storage facilities
  • Provide input short and long term planning for tailings storage facilities and dams
  • Lead the implementation of management of change for tailings storage facilities and dams
  • Lead or facilitate risk assessments and provide ongoing risk management
  • Partner with project and design teams for expansions or new facilities and provide quality assurance to construction of expansions or new facilities
  • Interact with and provide periodic reporting to senior leaders, including the Accountable Executive

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor of engineering (Civil) or engineering geology degree
  • Considerable professional experience with design, construction and, preferably, operation of tailings storage facilities and dams
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently achieve safety and operational outcomes and delivery of targets
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and management skills
  • Excellent communication skills

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • A strong understanding of dam safety monitoring equipment and interpretation of data
  • A detailed understanding of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) and national/international guidelines (ANCOLD, ICOLD, MAC, CDA, USBR)
  • Previous experience working with Western Australian regulations relating to tailings storage facilities
  • Experience in supervising the construction of tailings storage facilities and/or dams
  • Experience in risk assessment and risk management of dams
