The team
Our dedicated Internal Audit team create value and improve the way our clients work. We help Boards and Committees understand governance, risk management and provide guidance on best practice to strengthen every aspect of their business.
The Manager, Risk Consulting is an opportunity to be a leader within our Internal Audit team in adding value to our clients businesses. The experience and expertise of our dedicated team of specialist risk professionals and Internal Auditors allows us to work with organisations to achieve their strategic objectives and meet their compliance and risk management obligations.
The Role
As a Manager of Internal Audit at AFS, you will play a pivotal leadership role, guiding our Internal Audit team towards excellence. Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Leading the development of risk-based Internal Audit plans, working closely with team members to identify key audit areas, objectives, and methodologies.
- Overseeing risk assessments to identify potential areas of risk and ensure comprehensive coverage.
- Providing direction and guidance in the planning and scoping of Internal Audit projects, aligning with client needs and expectations.
- Executing comprehensive Internal Audit procedures, from data analysis to evaluating controls, compliance, and process efficiency.
- Reviewing and approving Internal Audit reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and actionable recommendations.
- Communicating Internal Audit results and insights effectively to key stakeholders, promoting a thorough understanding of findings and suggested actions.
- Managing and mentoring a team of Internal Audit professionals, from Graduate to Senior Consultants, fostering their growth and development.
- Ensuring that Internal Audit processes adhere to professional standards, methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
- Overseeing the implementation of recommendations from Internal Audit engagements and conducting follow-up audits to verify effectiveness.
- Building and nurturing strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, providing expert advice on risk management and control strategies.
- Monitoring the successful delivery of Internal Audit projects within defined scopes, timeframes, and budgets.
- Contributing your expertise to support the team's overall objectives.
As a Manager of Internal Audit, you will guide the team's performance, ensure the highest standards of Internal Audit practices, and drive the continuous growth and success of our services.
About you:
This role is an opportunity for someone who is interested in expanding their management, risk management, process improvement and Internal Audit experience, or looking to move into a dedicated Internal Audit division. As the successful applicant:
- you’re tertiary qualified in Accounting, Commerce, Business, Finance, Risk Management or Governance.
- you're a seasoned Internal Audit, risk management, process improvement and/or governance professional who is seeking to expand their Internal Audit and risk experience, or seeking to move into a dedicated Internal Audit division.
- you have prior experience leading and developing a team of Graduate to Senior Consulting and/or Internal Audit professionals.
- you have 5+ years working with Clients in Public Accounting or management consulting or in industry within Risk Management, Governance, Process improvement or management.
- you're IAA qualified or equivalent, or would like to be (if so, we'll support you)
- you have outstanding communication skills, written and spoken, comfortable communicating with individuals across all levels of an organisation.
- you have extensive experience in writing reports, observations and communicating results and outcomes to varied audiences.
- you are committed to and understand the importance of relationship building, with your colleagues, community and your clients
- you have a flexible and collaborative working style, with the ability to understand and analyse client information
- you will enjoy problem solving and act with integrity.

Our commitment to the Bendigo Community is a top priority for us. While this position offers the convenience of hybrid work, it's essential to note that it is primarily based in Bendigo. As part of this role, you will be expected to be in the office approximately two days a week and occasionally travel to our clients' premises in Bendigo and surrounds.
