Drone Operator – Casual Position
Endeavour Veterinary Ecology (EVE) is seeking a motivated drone pilot with a passion for, and commitment to, positive wildlife outcomes to join our team. We’re seeking a casual Gold Coast or Brisbane-based RePL-holder for work on a project at the Gold Coast, but with the flexibility to work throughout Queensland or interstate, as required. The use of drone technologies is a major part of EVE’s operations. Our experienced drone team routinely conducts drone surveys for wildlife population census and monitoring projects. The team utilises various RPAS platforms, and in particular thermal camera sensors, to achieve high-level wildlife management outcomes. The successful applicant will assist field ecologists and project managers on various projects to enhance our wildlife management capabilities in the field. The successful pilot will need to meet the requirements set by CASA, EVE’s Chief Remote Pilot, and comply with legislative requirements and operational manuals.
Overview:
EVE has embraced innovations in the use of drone technology for koala management work, in particular, and use drones on an almost daily basis as part of our commitment to provide the highest standard of care and robust population monitoring of animals. These operations may include large-scale site surveys, assistance with koala search and capture, and field monitoring of telemetrically tagged koalas. EVE has several drones with thermal capability that are used for RPAS operations. EVE has a Remotely piloted aircraft operator’s certificate (ReOC) and instruments of approval that allow for night-time and extended VLOS operations.
Responsibilities:
EVE RPAS operators have responsibility for conducting RPAS operations for EVE diligently and in compliance with the relevant regulations and EVE standard operating procedures (SOPs). Specifically, the RPAS operator must:
comply with the EVE RPAS Operations Manual and the Civil Aviation Safety Regulation as amended from time to time, including the safe and lawful use of RPAS and associated equipment.
ensure that RPAS and associated equipment are maintained and cared for appropriately, follow the direction of the EVE Senior Base Pilot and when given directions in respect of RPAS operations and procedures by the EVE Chief Remote Pilot
maintain up to date records of:
o Remote pilot’s log;
o RPAS time-in-service log;
o Battery log;
o Maintenance and defect log.
To be suitable for this role the applicant must have:
Commercial RPAS pilot experience
Remote pilot Licence (RePL) Multirotor to 7kg, with multirotor to 25kg preferred
Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC)
An aviation-safe mindset with good knowledge on airspace and aviation rules
Flight planning skills
Passion and commitment to positive wildlife outcomes
Relevant experience and/or qualification in wildlife ecology, or a related discipline
Data collection, data management and processing skills
Field experience including an open Driver Licence and 4wd experience
Strong written and verbal communication skills and report writing skills
Availability to work flexible hours, with the ability to work at night essential, and the capacity to work away from home as required.

Night flight and thermal sensor experience
First aid certificate
4WD certificate
Chainsaw certificate
GIS software experience
BVLOS accreditation (not essential)
Radio telemetric wildlife tracking experience
