Job description

About AIMS
The Australian Institute of Marine Science is Australia's tropical marine research agency.
We are a trusted advisor, a partner and employer of choice, and we value integrity, innovation, collaboration and respect. AIMS' research of Australia's tropical marine ecosystems guides their effective environmental management and contributes to our understanding of similar ecosystems around the world.
Our research seeks to deliver practical benefit to all Australians and supports the sustainable use of our tropical marine estate. Governments, reef managers, industry and the wider community look to our high-quality, long-term research for informed decisions about our iconic Great Barrier Reef, North-West Shelf, and Arafura and Timor Seas. AIMS expert teams at our locations in Townsville, Darwin and Perth have access to world-class infrastructure, unique datasets, cutting-edge laboratories, and a fleet of modern research vessels.
About this exciting opportunity
This is a great opportunity to join the Reef Recovery Adaptation and Restoration Program, who are delivering research and development that is testing the feasibility, benefits and risks of novel reef restoration and adaptation interventions that seed corals onto reefs. Joining this team as a Projects Coordinator, you will help deliver a portfolio of projects related to key research in Enhanced Corals and Treatments and Coral Aquaculture and Deployment sub-programs.
You will be responsible for providing high level project coordination and administration across a variety of areas. You can expect to assist in the development of project execution plans and management systems to track projects, including milestones, resource budgets and expenditure; manage travel, research and field logistics, permits and training documentation; and support the management of the projects inline with policies. You will also assist sub-program leads to oversee communication and release of materials into public domain.
With a key focus on stakeholder engagement, you will work closely with program leads, project teams and program management to ensure reporting of milestones and deliverables, and projects are completed on time, remain in budget, and meet stakeholder needs. As a primary point of contact, you will support a number of operational relationships across projects.
About you
You will have experience managing large research projects and/or collaborative programs, supported by a tertiary qualification in marine science, environmental management or relevant discipline. You have proven to work autonomously and efficiently in your previous roles and have supported project delivery to a high standard. You will be confident using MS Office suite to perform your daily tasks, especially Teams and Microsoft Project or similar project management software.
In a fast-paced environment, you are adaptable to changing requirements and project needs. You will have demonstrated that you can build relationships with a variety of people from different professional backgrounds and disciplines, which gives you the ability to communicate effectively, both in person and written communications. Ideally you will have experience working with stakeholders in the marine sector. Experience in financial management (developing budgets and tracking expenditure) and in negotiations with regulatory bodies and training providers would be highly desirable.
Apply now and join a world leading organisation with attractive working conditions. In line with our Enterprise Agreement, the successful candidate will be rewarded with:

  • AIMS AOF Level 4 salary ($90,321 to $102,784 per annum) plus 15.4% superannuation.
  • Full-time, 2 ½-year Fixed Term opportunity (to 30 June 2026).
  • Located in Townsville, Queensland. Commuter car arrangements to site available.
  • 9-day fortnight.
  • Flexible Work Arrangements considered (including tele-working where possible).
  • Generous leave provisions.
Please note: * Non-Australian Citizens must hold an appropriate Visa with working entitlements that allows paid employment with AIMS for the term of the appointment, depending on the relevant Department of Home Affairs current policies.
  • AIMS strongly encourages all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Whilst it is not currently a mandatory requirement for this role, AIMS reserves the right to review its position and policy on mandatory vaccinations. It may therefore become a mandatory requirement for this role in the future.
