Westgate Community Initiatives Group Ltd. (WCIG) is an established, not for profit organisation that is committed to creating practical responses to unemployment and disadvantage across Melbourne and Geelong. Our Registered Training Organisation (RTO) provides accredited and non-accredited education and training to support young people and adults re-engage in further learning. 

We support students who may be disengaged or impacted by various vocational and non-vocational barriers to learning. Our goal is to assist our students with developing their vocational skills to gain employment, pursue further education and/or connect with the community, as well as building their literacy, language and numeracy skills and building their confidence and employability. 

Due to current and anticipated continual program growth, we have a newly created opportunity for an experienced RTO Strategic Business Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Deputy CEO, you will manage a team consisting of an Operations Manager, Business Development Officer, Compliance Coordinator and Administration Coordinator. We are open to negotiating hours between 0.8 to 1.0 FTE, with flexible hours/days to be discussed with the successful candidate.

You will be responsible for the strategic operations and leadership of WCIG’s Training Services division, as we continue to grow our service and reach across Melbourne and Geelong. The growth of the Training Services division is essential to achieving budget. This includes strengthening our market share through various business development initiatives with key industry and community stakeholders.

Previous management experience in the RTO industry is essential.

 The role:

  • Plan and implement business development strategies through various marketing initiatives for program growth
  • Ensuring program performance objectives are achieved and exceeded, and services are delivered per contract guidelines 
  • Actively engage with key community-based organisations, government departments and other stakeholders to identify current gaps and potential growth areas, and form strategic partnerships
  • Financial literacy is essential, as you will manage budget review and forecasting to ensure financial viability of the program
  • Oversee audit requirements and implement corrective actions as needed to meet compliance frameworks and standards
  • Strategic risk management of critical incidents, contingencies and financial activities 
  • Provide overall leadership to a geographically disperse team

 About you:

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated management experience in the RTO industry is essential
  • Current Australian driver’s licence is essential 
  • Current Working with Children’s Check or ability to obtain prior to commencement is essential 
  • Knowledge and understanding of ASQA, AWF, SVTS and VRQA standards, current legislative requirements, and other relevant RTO guidelines 
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to establish strategic partnerships and drive program performance innovation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are crucial for developing and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to recognise risks and implement contingency measures to alleviate them
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a high performing multi-site team is required
