What’s the role?
As an SEM GP, you’ll have the chance to work across various healthcare settings, from Hospital to remote primary care, mainstream General Practice and Aboriginal health services. The SEM provides you with one contract to work across multiple settings, ensuring consistent access to accrued benefits and allowances.

Located on Katherine's main street, Katherine Family Medical Practice (KFMP) is a new and modern clinic that offers comprehensive GP care, including general health assessments, care plans, mental health support, women’s, men’s, and children’s health services, diabetes care, workers compensation, and travel vaccinations.
The team comprises administrative staff, a Practice Manager, Nurse Practitioner, and onsite pathology. KFMP is a positive, enthusiastic, and successful medical practice whose goal is to deliver excellent healthcare services to the Katherine region, prioritising patient safety, wellbeing, and compassion, while striving for excellence and continuous improvement in clinical care.
NT Health - Big Rivers Region includes Katherine Hospital which provides essential medical services to a vast region comparable to the size of Victoria, with 40 beds spread across medical, paediatric/post-op, and obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G) wards, along with a medical day stay unit.
The hospital features a dedicated team of Rural Generalists and maintains robust collaborative ties with various departments at the tertiary referral centre, the Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH).
Non-clinical opportunities are available including teaching medical students, junior doctors, as well as the chance to contribute to specialised portfolios within the department.
For those wishing to work in the Emergency Department (ED), there is varied and diverse medicine with approximately 16,000 presentations per year, with a mix of adult and paediatric patients. The ED has a close relationship with the Careflight retrieval service, and a developed teaching program for junior doctors. Senior Doctor colleagues in ED are a mix of FACEM and Rural Generalists.
Outreach GP opportunities are also available for those wishing to work in remote General Practice, as NT Health - Big Rivers region extends GP services to Pine Creek and Numbulwar clinics.

What do you need to apply?
- Specialist registration in General Practice with AHPRA
- FACRRM or FRACGP
- An interest in rural and remote health
- Advanced specialised training or extended skills training in areas including anaesthetics, obstetrics, emergency medicine, mental health, or similar would be an advantage
