Our flagship brands and services include ABC News 7PM, ABC News on digital and social media and ABC news channels on radio and television.About the RoleRural reporting is like being a foreign correspondent without having to go overseas.In this role, you'll tell the stories of what it takes to put food on plates and clothes on backs, across all platforms from traditional radio and television to digital and social media.You'll meet amazing people and enjoy on-the-road assignments. And you'll find out how rural issues intersect with food and farming, sustainability, innovation, mining, technology, business and politics.At ABC North Queensland, you'll cover a vast region; north to Mission Beach, south to Bowen and west to Hughenden and a broad variety of rural industries, including live export, cattle, fishing, mining, horticulture and sugar.We're looking for a creative and highly motivated, multi-skilled Rural Reporter who loves the thrill of the chase and setting the day's news agenda.Reporting to the Local Editor, Townsville, you will be responsible for:

• Producing and presenting radio, digital and video content for ABC platforms and programs, including abc.net.au/news, the Rural Report the Queensland Country Hour.
• Producing regular feature material, for broadcast, digital and social platforms.
• Contributing to the implementation of the Local Emergency Coverage plan and communicating with relevant stakeholders as required.

About YouYou will be an experienced and creative journalist (a couple of years under your belt) with a genuine interest in understanding the issues facing the agricultural and primary industries and how they affect the community.You will be able to demonstrate that you are:

• An accomplished reporter and presenter
• Experienced in creating authentic content for radio and digital platforms that represents the broad diversity of the Australian community.
• Experienced in Rural and Resources Journalism and with an in-depth understanding of rural, resources and regional issues
• Knowledgeable about local, national and international rural issues
• Able to travel to remote locations when required
