Our client is a highly respected and growing Ground Engineering contractor working across design and construction services for: piling, grouting, earth retention, civil construction and civil / geotechnical engineering.
We are seeking a dedicated Safety Advisor with at least 5 years' of hands-on WHS experience to oversee all safety aspects within the company. The Safety Advisor will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of safety, conducting audits, managing incident reporting, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. We are looking for a outside the box team player with an ability to mitigate risks whilst ensuring the continuity of day to day work.
Responsibilities:
- Promote a safe work culture consistently.
- Chair WHS meetings, including agenda creation and distribution of minutes.
- Conduct site and yard audits, attending various construction sites as required.
- Undertake on-site WMS observations for compliance.
- Lead and assist with incident reporting, attending various construction sites when necessary.
- Develop and monitor return-to-work plans and handle worker’s compensation claims.
- Accompany staff to doctor’s appointments for work-related injuries.
- Manage safety documentation, including reviewing and updating Work Method Statements, Safe Work Procedures, Safety Data Sheets, and registers.
- Create new safe work procedures and safety-related documents as needed.
- Conduct plant risk assessments for new equipment and review assessments post-incident.
- Review subcontractor WMS for compliance and stay updated on safety legislation.
- Ensure compliance with IMS requirements and issue safety alerts.
- Maintain accident and incident registers and conduct drug and alcohol testing on-site.
- Develop and distribute weekly toolbox talks and create site-specific induction presentations.
- Issue safety breaches when necessary and conduct incident and accident investigations.
- Coordinate return-to-work programs and conduct risk control and hazard analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications
- Understanding of civil construction practices
- Present a neat and tidy appearance
- Willingness to travel or work away from home as required (interstate travel to be expected)
- Certificate VI (or relevant qualification) in Workplace Health & Safety
- First Aid Certificate with CPR
- Valid and current Driver's License
- Return to work coordinator qualification (desired)
- 10275NAT - Course in Workplace Drug Testing (desired)
- White Card (construction card)
- Availability on required workdays, adhering to company policies regarding drugs and alcohol
