Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.
Job Description
As our Safety Coordinator you will be passionate about driving positive outcomes through strong investigation and reporting that in turn will increases early intervention and improves the outcomes throughout the organisation. Reporting to the Safety Superintendent, your tasks will include:
- Assist the SHE team to deliver targets safely, optimally, and in accordance with the annual mine plan.
- Deliver safety initiatives and systems required to implement the life of mine plan
- Assist with maintaining the site Safety Health and Environment Management System (SHEMS) and ensure compliance in line with legislative and AA Steelmaking Coal requirements.
- Deliver safety initiatives and systems that readily identify safety and compliance issues.
- Provide sound advice to operational and support services in all aspects of Safety management to assist in the delivery of Zero Harm in line with business strategies and legislative requirements.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with clients to help guide positive interactions whilst promoting Anglo's Guiding Values.
- Support the implementation of AA Steelmaking Coal systems and processes to ensure they are applied consistently across the mine.
- Champion Anglo American Learning from Incidents site investigations
- Drive human factors analysis of incidents
- Focal point for Operational Risk Management practices
- Auditing and facilitation of corporate governance self-assessment tools
- Provide and assistance in Regulator RSHQ reporting and compliance activities
- Ensure SHEMS is maintained, updated and electronically available to all Coal Mine Workers on site
- Tertiary Qualifications in Safety (or a related discipline) desirable
- Previous Safety experience within mining operations (preferably Coal) or heavy industry desirable.
- Exceptional organisational skills, professional and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to a team of professionals to deliver against set targets.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety with previous experience in identifying risks and implementing safe working practices.
- Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes.
- Demonstrated ability with safety database and systems
- Demonstrated data & analytical skills highly desirable
- Full-time, permanent position
