The organisation runs three social enterprises – Green Connect, Soft Landing, Resource Recovery Australia, and a range of community services. Last year we employed 684 people, 76% of whom experienced barriers to employment, we kept over 18,000 tonnes of waste out of landfill; we grew and distributed 55,000kgs of fair food; and we provided over 44,000 community service instances to those who need it most.

About the Opportunity

In this position, you will demonstrate values-aligned behaviour that support our purpose and strategic objectives. The scope includes all our diverse businesses, covering most Australian states and territories. Some travel, including overnight and interstate, is required in this role. There are a variety of locations you can be based to work in this role, with most business based in NSW. 

To be successful in this role you will be able to develop and implement effective solutions by understanding the resources available, have a commercial focus and take people on the journey with you. 

Community Resources values safety, health, wellbeing, and the environment in our workplace. This role leads the implementation of and oversees comprehensive safety and environmental programs and initiatives. Importantly, the role must engage with employees at all levels on continually minimising risks across our operations to promote physical and psychological safe workplaces. 

Community Resources has embarked on a journey to develop and implement an integrated management system, with the goal of achieving ISO Certification.   This role will play a critical part in ensuring our Enterprises are informed and educated during this journey to meet the safety and environmental standards.   

 About You

  • Expert knowledge and demonstrated successful implementation of work health and safety management systems and Wellbeing activities.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Work Health & Safety, Human Resources, or related specialist field or significant relevant experience.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act, state based WHS legislation and Regulatory environments.
  • Knowledge and awareness of ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and ISO14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Involvement or experience in implementing key requirements of an IMS, specifically safety and environment requirements, would be desirable.
  • Strategic business knowledge and understanding. 
  • Capability to drive improvement through building positive safety and Wellbeing practices and culture.
  • Strong relationship management and influencing skills. 
  • An excellent communicator, highly developed interpersonal skills and highly service orientated.
  • Collaborate with employees at all levels, and capably able to shift messaging, language, tone to achieve high engagement and relatability with safety and Wellbeing practices.
  • Certification as required in the role in Work Health and Safety, Return to Work Coordination, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in managing Worker’s Compensation across multiple states is desirable.

The position is full-time, with the option of working flexibly between the office and home, with occasional travel required.
