Safety Lead – Major Projects

What will you be doing?

Sydney Water is actively constructing new assets which will deliver economic growth and liveability across the Greater Sydney Region. There is also a very strong pipeline of upcoming projects which will enable Sydney Water to continue to deliver safe, sustainable potable water, wastewater, and stormwater services for our customers.

Due to the increasing number of construction projects Australia’s largest Water Utility Sydney Water is looking for a Permanent Safety Lead to ensure safety is prioritised at all times on all sites and work closely with our Regional Delivery Consortia teams.

You will:

• Partner closely with Sydney Water delivery partners to ensure safety practices and systems are consistent.
• Provide safety expertise on complex civil infrastructure construction sites.
• Actively work to mitigate workplace risks and hazards by promoting a safe working culture.
• Facilitate health, safety and well-being activities for all site workers.
• Support the safety assurance program.
• Conduct inspections and leadership walks/observations to review work activities and identify improvement opportunities.
• Participate in and support safety investigations by the Delivery Partners and communicate any findings or lessons learnt across Sydney Water.

Department Overview: Sydney Water’s Safety, Health & Wellbeing team does safety differently, actively promoting a safety culture with a focus on driving safety performance and improvement across all business units. The Safety, Health and Wellbeing team provides safety advice, promote safety and wellbeing initiatives, investigate incidents, provide assurance, assist in managing our injuries and incidents, and collect, analyse and report on safety-related data to drive evidence-based decision making across Sydney Water.

Who are we looking for?

You will have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a Safety role in construction and/or commercial building projects, with a focus on high-risk work tasks in a construction environment. You enjoy developing a strong working rapport with all project stakeholders, and you promote the value of, and create a safe work environment for all parties at all times. You will have:

• Certificate IV in Workplace Health & Safety or another tertiary health and safety qualification.
• Lead Auditor qualifications in Safety will be advantageous.
• ICAM training, or other recognised safety investigations training.
• Working knowledge of the WHS Act, WHS Regulations and associated Codes of Practice and Australian Standards.
• White Card, and clean driver’s licence.
