About The Role
Reporting directly to the Senior Manager – Operations Safety, Risk and Compliance, the key focus of this role is to drive, champion and support cultural change in safety and risk at RFT.
You will use your strong experience in previous Safety Manager roles to:
- Lead and support a safety team of 3, providing direction and focus across all safety and compliance activities.
- Monitor and communicate business performance to improve decision making regarding WHS and integrate WHSE into business decisions.
- Manage and be an integral part of all investigations including safety training, corrective action, auditing and reporting.
- Participate and perform incident review and analysis. Support the business to develop and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance regarding all WHS compliance matters, including inspections.
- Build and nurture positive stakeholder relationships ensuring the safety team are seen as ‘Trusted Advisors’ who work in partnership with the business
- Drive adherence to and contribute to the review of Policies, Procedures and Standards within the business
- Reduce injuries and incidents in the business. Report regularly to management.
As the face of Safety within the business, you will be expected to visit RFT sites each month. Sites are located across Victoria and NSW.

Skills and Experience
Although a background in Transport would be advantageous, a background in mining or construction would also be suitable.
- At least 3-5yrs experience in a senior Safety or Risk Manager role
- Proven supervisory, management and leadership skills
- Technical safety skills and knowledge a must
- Experience leading and conducting investigations a must
- Experience carrying out audits/inspections
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable
- Diploma or degree in Compliance, WHS/OHS/Risk. Graduate qualifications in Business/Law/HR/WHS (advantageous)
- Cert IV in Training and Assessment
- Return to Work accreditation (desirable)
- Risk Management and Auditing
- Knowledge of ICAM, 5WHYs
