In this pivotal role, you will report to the Senior Manager Safety and Wellbeing where you will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing safety strategies, programs and procedures to ensure we achieve our safety and wellbeing goal: to create a supportive and nurturing workplace that prioritises total wellness and safety of our people to enable them to be fit for life and work.

We are looking for a safety professional who shares our vision of going beyond compliance and traditional safety approaches, - think of safety differently, Human and Organisational Performance.  We are looking for someone that prides themselves on being a highly visible, collaborative and reliable safety leader.   

A little bit more about the role: 

  • Lead the development and implementation of RACT’s Safety & Wellbeing Management System.
  • Coach and guide leaders to increase their safety knowledge, ownership and engagement.  
  • Provide insight and expertise on safety issues, legislative requirements and standards.
  • Develop and facilitate programs and initiatives to identify health & safety hazards, effectively manage risk and embed controls.
  • Investigate safety incidents to determine root causes and key learnings to prevent recurrence.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by encouraging participation, recognising achievements in safety performance, and fostering open communication.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Relevant qualification in Work Health and Safety (degree / Certificate IV) or other relevant discipline.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and continually improving health and safety management systems.
  • Experience leading risk assessments including facilitation of risk workshops.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation, principles and contemporary practices.
  • Ability to develop, facilitate and deliver technical and safety training to a varied audience.
  • Experience in identifying, advising and resolving safety issues including investigations.
  • Highly developed skills in negotiating and influencing stakeholders through strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Capacity to set own priorities within a busy and quickly changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Car licence with the ability to do adhoc travel when required.
