The CICADA Research officer is an integral member of the CICADA drug and alcohol service and Department of Adolescent Medicine and will contribute actively to the development and provision of high-quality health research.
The CICADA service is a lifespan approach to the Care and Intervention for Children and Adolescents affected by Drugs and Alcohol, with three clinical streams including Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Service, Family and Adolescent Service.
The primary purpose of the Research Officer will be to contribute to the planning, implementation, co-ordination, data management and reporting of research projects conducted within the CICADA service. The Research Officer will have responsibility to oversee the CICADA Research and Evaluation Program of Research which has various projects to demonstrate the efficacy of an early intervention prevention approach; analysing a broad range of health and social indicators, assessments and interventions provided by the service.
The Research Officer will also provide project management and oversight of the FASD NSW Project - Fast Accessible Screening and Diagnosis for children and adolescents with FASD. The position will facilitate research collaboration with key partners, project management and support the monitoring, evaluation and reporting requirements of the research projects including scientific publication, presentation, and reports.
The Research Coordinator will utilise their knowledge of clinical and health services research in the establishment and maintenance of productive working relationships with internal and external collaborators, departments, and staff.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical research; preferably with children and adolescents and/or drug and alcohol research.
- Doctorate, Honours or Masters Degree in Psychology, Nursing or Equivalent training in health/ behaviour sciences research, methodology and statistics.
- Excellent skills in clinical research in quantitative or qualitative clinical, public health. health services research, including database management and basic statistical analysis skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience in development of ethics proposals and scientific writing skill.
- Knowledge of standard child and adolescent questionnaires, including for developmental assessments, mental health and drug and alcohol.
- Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of data collection systems including programs such as excel and redcap and biostatistics, including use one or more statistical programs.
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner and within part of a team.
