The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network has received funding from the Ministry of Health for the Safety and Support for Children Experiencing Violent Abuse and Neglect NPA Project. The successful applicants will be employed within the Child Protection Unit on each relevant site to commence ASAP until 30th June 2025: 


- 1 Staff Specialist at 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week) at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick

- 1 Staff Specialist at 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week) at The Children's Hospital at Westmead


What you'll be doing

The purpose of these roles is to support the establishment of the NSW Health Safety and Support for Children Experiencing Violence Abuse and Neglect project (the Safety and Support Project), in collaboration with NSW Health Education Centre Against Violence (ECAV).
 
ECAV is a statewide unit auspiced by Western Sydney Local Health District. ECAV is responsible for multi-sectorial learning, capacity building and workforce development, community development and supervision, in the specialist areas of prevention and response to violence, abuse and neglect (PARVAN).
 
These two positions will be situated in the Child Protection Unit (CPU), Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick (0.6 FTE), and the CPU, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead (0.6 FTE). 
 
These positions will support the Network to participate in service delivery and program implementation activities for the Safety and Support Project.
 
Responsibilities will include planning, design, and implementation of an education and training package for paediatric forensic medical services, particularly the assessment and management of physical abuse and neglect in children. The work may involve designing and providing materials for coursework, lectures and tutorials, evaluation of clinical competencies and delivery of practical training components such as provision of clinical placements at the CPUs at Randwick and Westmead.

Applicants must have completed the COVID-19 vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

ASARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) 2 primary doses are required for Category A positions (refer to NSW Policy Directive PD2023_022 Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases).

In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate.

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Paediatrician and/or overseas trained specialist pathways
  2. Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Child Protection at the role delineation of the service
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team
  4. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement
  6. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time
