Selection Criteria
SC1 Demonstrated experience and skills in a nursing or First Aid role to meet the First Aid and special needs of children, staff and visitors in the school.
SC2 Demonstrated ability to organise and manage medication requirements for students, including ensuring adequate supplies, timely delivery and complete relevant data entry.
SC3 High level written and oral communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with students, parents, staff and broader members of the school community.
SC4 High level ability to work cooperatively and to a professional standard with all members of a school community - parents, students and staff.
SC5 Demonstrated experience and a comprehensive knowledge of the treatment of Diabetes, Anaphylaxis, Allergies and Asthma.
SC6 Demonstrated understanding of the individualised needs of students with an autism spectrum disorder and the ability to implement inclusive practices.
Specific Duties:
- Attend to students and staff who present for First Aid treatment.
- Administer medication to students requiring daily medication.
- Keep the Principal Staff and Leadership Team informed of major incidents i.e., ambulance calls, WorkSafe related incidents.
- Meet with parents/guardians to develop, monitor, and review annual Medical Management Plans for conditions such as anaphylaxis, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, etc.
- Maintain records of all medication or treatment, only administer medication within DET guidelines and only after permission from parents or guardians.
- Keep accurate records of First Aid attendance and medical management plans.
- Notify parents/guardians of their child's illness or injury.
- Notify them of a student visit to First Aid via Compass online portal.
- Order and maintain First Aid supplies.
- Replenish First Aid kits for external activities.
- Update medical alert information across different formats including the school's operating.
- systems, Cases21 and Compass, in the First Aid room, Staffrooms and other locations throughout the school.
- Maintain EpiPen Register
- Alert parents of EpiPen expiry dates
- Ensure EpiPens and defibrillators are maintained across the school.
- Maintain (in conjunction with the school cleaners) the First Aid Centre in a clean, orderly and hygienic condition.
- Liaise with other members of staff such as Business Manager and Administration staff regarding student health needs.
- Attend school events as required and provide adequate First Aid support.
- Verifying staff Anaphylaxis Certificates of Competency
- Perform general office duties when requested, by the Principal/Business Manager.
- Provide routine clerical or other administrative support responsibilities including general telephone, front office enquiries, mail deliveries, assisting with stock control, supporting organisation of meetings, receiving and initial processing of standard paperwork.
