About the Role

The School Psychologist will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic professional who will work closely with all stakeholders and community members in order to foster a healthy and supportive environment. The School Psychologist will work collaboratively with the Deputy Principals and Pastoral Leaders to further develop and enhance the School's Wellness Program and provide expert advice at enrolment interviews as required. This role will work as a team member with our current part-time School Psychologist.

This is a part-time role of 2 to 3 days a week.

Job tasks and responsibilities

The School Psychologist takes responsibility and accountability for:

 Vision

To optimise the wellbeing of students through:

  • Primarily: individual counselling/short-term therapy, and working with families
  • Assessment and identification of needs of individuals and groups
  • Formulating and case-managing well-being-promoting interventions
  • Report writing and referrals
  • Working collaboratively with pastoral team leaders, School nurse and the Learning Enrichment team
  • Provide expert advice on learning and social enrichment needs

Wellbeing Optimisation

  • Assessing the well-being and needs of individuals and groups
  • Making recommendations and initiating counselling and other intervention and programmes to optimise the well-being of all community stakeholders
  • Attend Pastoral Leadership Team meetings
  • Conduct systematic class and functional assessments as required
  • Conduct presentations to staff on learning and behavioural requirements and needs of students and skill-based well-being optimisation strategies

Counselling

  • Individual counselling/short-term therapy and family work
  • Professional comprehensive psycho-social assessment and report writing
  • Keeping of professional records
  • Case managing and referral as needed
  • Networking, case discussions, and well-being meetings aimed at managing a team approach with parents and outside clinicians and other Whitsunday Anglican School staff, including: Boarding House Staff, School Nurse, Teachers, Principal, Executive Leadership Team members.

Skills and experience

Candidate Profile:

  • Experience counselling children and adolescents using evidence-based interventions
  • Current full professional Psychologies Registration (AHPRA)
  • Demonstrated high-level management, networking, leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated use of initiative, with the ability to anticipate the needs of a School organisation
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills, who has the ability to engage, inspire and lead School stakeholders to reach desired outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • A committed team player 

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Family Therapy qualifications and experience
  • School teaching experience or experience in counselling in a school environment
  • Clinical Psychology Master Degree preferred but not essential
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively participate in a team approach to student wellbeing
  • Working knowledge and interest in psychology coaching interventions
  • Experience managing psychological needs in the event of a crisis or critical incident
