Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School including Ipswich Junior Grammar School offers high quality, non-denominational education to students from Kindy to Year 12 (co-education from Kindy to Year 6, girls only Years 7-12). Established in 1892, the School is one of eight original Grammar Schools in Queensland. THE OPPORTUNITY

Working with the School’s extensive Pastoral Care team, you will provide professional counselling services and proactive and preventative interventions to primary and secondary school students and their parents, including students who live onsite as part of our Boarding House community.
Reporting to the Dean of Students, the successful candidate will promote mental health and wellbeing as well as supporting the management of students with emotional and behavioural challenges. You will also be required to identify, support, and refer for further treatment young people who may be challenged by mental health and related school and family complexities. This is a part-time (0.5FTE) term time role commencing Term 2 or earlier if available. Flexible hours may also be available to support the service, with paid school vacation periods with some ‘on-call’ requirements if required.

Core areas of focus for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the provision of social, emotional, and academic support to improve the learning opportunities and outcomes for all students.
  • Work with key stakeholders and use a range of strategies and interventions to support the outcomes for children and young people.
  • Effective and efficient management of resources to achieve agreed pastoral care outcomes.

Your experience and/or ability to work within a complex school environment will support your success in this space.

This role is open to trained child Psychologists or suitably qualified Teachers with relevant postgraduate qualifications in Psychology.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience as a Psychologist or suitably qualified Teacher / School Counsellor in an educational setting with a focus on prevention, intervention, and student learning, as well as:

  • Ability to facilitate proactive and preventative practices and initiatives that promote social, emotional, and educational development and the mental health and wellbeing in children and young people. Experience within an educational environment would be highly advantageous.
  • Proven experience managing counselling and consulting services for students (with personal, social, emotional, vocational, and educational needs) with a focus on prevention, intervention, and student learning.
  • Experience in providing support and leadership in response to student protection issues, critical incidents, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience providing psycho-educational and other assessments as required
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and negotiation capabilities.
  • Demonstrated high order capability in the provision of effective school administration.
  • Current full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia and/or Queensland College of Teachers with relevant postgraduate qualifications in Psychology and/or Guidance and Counselling (Masters level ideally)
