About the Role
Science Laboratory Assistant
St Aloysius’ College is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Laboratory Assistant to support the high performing Science faculty. This position is essential to the activities of the Science department, ensuring the successful and consistent organisation, implementation and monitoring of the Science educational resources and operations at the College. This position is offered on a full-time ongoing basis, commencing as soon as possible, or as negotiated with the College and the successful candidate.
Reporting to the Head of Science, this role requires the successful candidate to perform the complete range of administration/support functions within the Science department, whilst also contributing to the practical elements of the Science curriculum. This role represents an exciting opportunity for a motivated Science graduate to start their career within their field of studies or an experienced Laboratory Assistant that is keen to contribute to the teaching and learning of students.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for science and strong subject knowledge, with high levels of attention to detail and organisation skills. They will embrace a collaborative approach, working closely with the Science team to deliver innovative, creative and safe learning experiences in the pursuit of academic excellence.

About You
To be considered for this position, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate:
- Commitment to the mission of Catholic education of boys in the Jesuit tradition;
- A recognised qualification such as a Certificate III in Laboratory Skills or a Bachelor of Science and/or equivalent experience working in a laboratory environment;
- Knowledge and experience in the Safe Handling and Storage of Chemicals;
- Experience in utilising digital systems for the management and storage of chemicals;
- First aid certified;
- Working independently and efficiently, possessing the capacity to multi-task with minimal supervision and collaborate with colleagues to meet departmental goals within tight deadlines;
- Possess technical and problem-solving skills to effectively manage laboratory operations;
- Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork through relationship building, reliability, and collaboration;
- Maintain high performance and manage teacher/student expectations in a busy environment;
- Significant competency in the use of ICT for the management and documentation of various Science Department resources;
- High level of organisation and time management;
- Meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, quality and proactive approach to the role;
- Effective and efficient conflict resolution skills;
- Succinct, effective communication (oral and written) skills;
- Commitment to safeguarding children and young people.
