We are currently seeking a qualified, experienced laboratory Technician to join our team on a part-time basis (0.6 FTE).
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, collate and purchase materials and equipment;
- Source, make and repair equipment, ensuring it is cleaned and maintained as required;
- Demonstrate practical activities and skills to students and teachers, when required;
- Operate equipment associated with science;Trial experiments and develop appropriate practical activities;
- Support the compliance of procedures for the safe handling, storage and disposal of biologically hazardous materials;
- Maintain laboratories in good order;
- Maintain inventory of equipment and chemicals;
- Liaise with teaching staff and other school based and external personnel as required;
- Communicate and explain relevant scientific information and give feedback to teachers and students when required;
- Identify hazards and apply appropriate risk assessment control measures to minimize hazards;
- Complete safety audits of the science facilities, following school policy;
- Provide information and instruction on safety matters to co-workers, teachers and students regarding practical activities;
- Manage the compliance of procedures for the safe handling, storage and disposal of biologically hazardous materials.
- Attend professional development training including LabNetWest network meetings and seminars
- The candidate must be able to provide technical assistance and to demonstrate an understanding of OHS requirements and legislative compliance.
