- Located in Sydney CBD close to Town Hall station.
The Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) is a division of Racing NSW which undertakes an integrity function the analysis of blood and urine samples from horses and jockeys in NSW and interstate. The facility uses highly sophisticated mass spectrometric equipment and other techniques to detect and confirm the presence of prohibited substances in samples to legally defensible criteria. ARFL is a NATA accredited Laboratory.
Racing NSW invites applications for the full time position of Scientific Officer in the drug testing laboratory section of ARFL.
Your Duties would include:
- Extraction and analysis of test samples to detect the presence of prohibited substances in accordance with the Rules of Racing.
- Checking of test results.
- Confirmatory analysis of samples.
- Method development.
- Operation and maintenance of mass spectrometers.
Applicants should possess the following:
- As a minimum bachelor’s degree in Chemistry is essential.
- Demonstrated industry experience in liquid chromatography mass spectrometric analysis of drugs from biological matrices is essential.
- Experience in gas chromatography mass spectrometric analysis (desirable).
- Experience with LCMS and GCMS instrument troubleshooting.
- Experience in method validation and quantitative analysis.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to multitask.
- Strong communication skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team environment with scientific and technical staff as well as working autonomously is essential.
- Knowledge of NATA accreditation requirements to ISO/IEC 17025 and/or experience working in an accredited laboratory.
