About the Department for Correctional Services
The Department employs approximately 2,000 staff and has responsibility for nine prisons and fifteen Community Correctional offices across the state. Our vision is for a safer community by protecting the public and reducing re-offending. Duties
The Security Coordinator is responsible to the Manager Security for:
- The training of Correctional Officers in all aspects of Control Room functions.
- The coordination of maintenance for all security systems (electronic and static), fire protections systems and security equipment including first line referral for all maintenance providers and contractors.
- The maintenance of accurate and timely records relevant to all Routine and Breakdown Maintenance within the operational portfolio. The development and maintenance of a Routine Maintenance Program.
- The development, review and implementation of prison security and operational procedures relevant to the Security Equipment and Electronic Security Systems.
- Contributing to the development, review and implementation of prison security applications; operational supervision and training of staff assigned security duties within the prison.
- The coordination of the Prosecutions Officers role, which includes the prosecution of all prisoner offence reports referred to the Visiting Tribunal in accordance with the Correctional Services Act 1982, the maintenance, custody and control of the prison contraband and evidence locker, including the submission of all required monthly contraband disposition reports.
Special Conditions
- Section 47 of the Public Sector Act 2009 applies in accordance with other provisions of the act and other applicable industrial entitlements.
- The incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete a National Criminal History Check.
- A current South Australian Driver's Licence is essential.
- A flexible approach to working hours is required.
- Some interstate and intrastate travel will be required which may necessitate overnight absences.
Requirements
Essential: Certificate III in Correctional Practice and custodial experience
Desirable: Certificate IV in Correctional Practice
Tertiary Studies in Supervision, Management, Human Services or relevant discipline.
