About the role
As Senior AdviserGovernment Engagement you will support Australian Red Cross to identify, understand and influence government stakeholders to achieve the organisation's purpose, vision, priorities and goals.
You will collaborate with State and Territory Directors and subject matter experts within and external to Australian Red Cross, across five focus areas (emergency services, migration, community programs, international programs, international humanitarian law) to design and implement humanitarian diplomacy strategies, which include building enduring and meaningful relationships with government and public sector stakeholders.
Position duties
Build and maintain trusted relationships with key government and public sector stakeholders - including Members of Parliament and their staff, based on the Fundamental Principles of Australian Red Cross, Red Crescent Movement, including neutrality and independence.
Monitor the government environment to ensure a contemporary understanding of relevant policy, regulation, and program delivery, to inform humanitarian diplomacy approaches.
Act as a trusted adviser to the State Director/s and State Managers, and provide ad hoc advice to Australian Red Cross staff, on engaging with government to achieve humanitarian diplomacy outcomes.
Work with subject matter experts to design and implement humanitarian diplomacy strategies.
Undertake stakeholder analysis to identify and understand government stakeholders who can support the achievement of humanitarian diplomacy objectives.
Design and implement a suite of tactics to involve and influence government stakeholders to realise these objectives (tactics may include meetings, briefings, correspondence, grant/tender submissions, submissions to parliamentary inquiries or hearings, budget submissions, reports, policy papers, marketing and media approaches).
What you will bring
Demonstrated experience working with government and public sector stakeholders to achieve public policy outcomes (experience working in a parliamentarian's office or with the public sector is particularly relevant).
Practical understanding of state and territory government (particularly Queensland) - including policy development, parliamentary processes, budget cycle, elections.
Working knowledge of government grants and tender processes.
Superior verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present persuasively to government audiences in a variety of formats.
Ability to work in an environment of ambiguity and complexity, demonstrating sound judgement under limited supervision.
Ability to think strategically, plan, problem solve, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver results.
Ability to uphold the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, including neutrality and independence.
