Eden Ritchie is seeking a Senior Adviser Safety & Governance (Human Resources) to support the Service Manager Safety Governance & Psychosocial Health in the development and delivery of a contemporary Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) management system that supports the business and the strategic priorities of the Council.The position is responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, analysis and enhancement of Council’s health, safety and wellbeing management system and the associated software systems and programs and providing high level advice on processes and practices to increase safety maturity across the organisation.

- Based in Cleveland
- Lead the coordination and conducting of audits as per the internal audit program across Council to effectively monitor and measure the health of the HSW system and the effectiveness of implementation, including the integrity and effectiveness of online systems.
- Evaluate and analyse the HSW system performance across Council to identify trends and provide recommendations for improvement initiatives in the implementation and enhancement of the Council’s HSW management system.
- Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the organisational-wide HSW Management System that is based on the risk profile of the organisation.
- Participate in the investigation and reporting of incidents, non-conformities and reviewing the effectiveness of risk management and HSW management processes for continuous improvement of the HSW management system.
- Lead and assist the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Group in the development and utilisation of strategic and operational processes to address and improve HSW risk determination.
- Provide high level advice to people leaders and workers on the processes and practices that increase HSW maturity and maintain a culture that is focused on continuous improvement.
- Support the HSW Group in the identification and management of HSW implications of organisational change and assist in the change process to minimise adverse effects and maximise positive effects of the change.
- Contribute to evidence-based practice through the collection, maintenance and evaluation of HSW data and information to assist with HSW management reports.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of HSW training and information material to develop HSW skills and awareness across Council.
- Engage and build effective working relationships with workers, and people leaders as a “trusted adviser” to assist with the consideration of HSW in decision making and enabling workers to stop work that is considered an immediate threat to health or safety.
- Assist the HSW Group to implement communication and consultation processes across relevant committees and departments, and to facilitate the delivery of HSW services and projects.
- Proactively maintain knowledge and monitor changes in WHS legislation and industry best practice to provide up to date advice and recommendations on compliance with legislative requirements.
- Comply with laws and regulations governing practice of WHS and related activities and make judgments impartially based on standards, legislation, Council requirements, HSW knowledge and practice.
- Highly developed discovery and problem solving skills in evaluating HSW management systems and processes and providing recommendations for HSW system improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrated substantial knowledge of contemporary HSW systems approach and experience in supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of WHS Management Systems within a large, complex organisation or government setting.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in supporting change / HSW improvement initiatives, including supporting workers and people leaders to develop their responsibility and leadership to achieve an organisational culture that is focused on HSW.
- Considerable knowledge of contemporary HSW and risk management systems, processes and principles, WHS legislation with audit, investigation and/or training experience.
- Ability to collect, maintain HSW data in standard and bespoke IT software systems and programs and experience in the development of evidence-based HSW management reports.
- Highly developed written and verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to engage and build ‘trusted’ relationships with workers and managers to achieve improved health and safety outcomes.
