They are seeking an experienced IT application developer responsible for developing, configuring, deploying, and supporting critical applications including Visual Weather, Microsoft Dynamics CRM and other software solutions. The successful applicant will have experience developing and supporting complex meteorological or GIS applications using Python, shell scripts, HTML, XML and Linux. A basic understanding of testing methodologies and software packaging tools and experience using Agile delivery methodology, sprints, stand-ups, and showcases will be highly regarded
Your new role
As an Application Developer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining software applications that support the organization's mission. You will work closely with other developers, project managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.
The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain applications within established standards and agreed SLAs / timelines.
- Investigation and resolution of incidents and problems within agreed SLAs
- Testing, packaging and deployment of configuration and software changes
- Developing and maintaining system documentation, including user documentation and standard operating procedures for support
- Ensuring adherence to Technology Policies and Procedures, including Incident, Problem and Change Management
- Continuous Improvement of systems, standards and processes for best practice
- Planning and prioritising tasks effectively to meet support SLAs and agreed timelines.
- Liaising effectively with colleagues, management, internal customers and stakeholders to achieve role outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills: You should be able to communicate effectively with other developers, project managers, and stakeholders.
What you'll need to succeed
- A degree or diploma of an Australian educational institution, or a comparable overseas qualification, which is appropriate to the duties; OR other comparable qualifications, which are appropriate to the duties.
- Excellent communications abilities both written and oral as required for communicating with forecasters, researchers, engineers, project managers, within the team, other IT staff, external vendors and management.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and supporting complex applications using python, shell scripts, HTML, XML and Linux.
- Experience in meteorological or GIS applications is preferable.
- Experience with revision control systems such as git and GitLab
- Ability to manage a backlog of work using an issue management system such as Jira, Gitlab or Cherwell.
- A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Bureau's Social Justice Strategy and the APS Values and Code of Conduct and a commitment to their implementation in the workplace.
