Role Details
The Department for Child Protection is seeking multiple Senior Assessment Officers to join the Carer Approval and Review unit on a full-time term basis.
The role is responsible for:
- Assessing and recommending people to act as foster and other carers within the out-of-home care system.
- Exercising analytical and professional judgement in undertaking thorough assessments and recommendations of carer applicants for approval.
- Monitoring the approval status of carers and liaising with out-of-home care agencies to ensure the timely performance of reviews and other appropriate evaluations.
- Liaising effectively with Supervisors (or equivalent) and out-of-home care service provider agencies to ensure appropriate levels of responsibility are exercised.
About You
The successful applicant will have strong interpersonal skills and be able to develop and maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders and communicate clearly on complex issues.
You will have the ability to evaluate information from multiple sources, assess risk, and use initiative to propose solutions to complicated matters.
To successfully undertake this role, you will have experience in presenting information relating to complex issues including preparing written reports, recommendations and briefings.

Special Conditions
Essential Qualifications:
AHP: A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
PO: Appropriate degree qualification in Community Services, Social Sciences, Human Services, Health or related field.
Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).
