About the role

An opportunity now exists for a Senior Carer Peer Support Worker to join the Brief Intervention Team incorporating Hospital Outreach post-suicidal engagement (HOPE). The role will facilitate improvement of the mental health and wellbeing service responsiveness for loved ones/carers/chosen families of consumers as they move towards their desired outcome in their recovery journey. In addition the Senior Carer Peer Support Worker will provide leadership support to other Lived Experience carer workers.
This role will work collaboratively with families, carers, consumers and staff to assist in identifying needs and providing support. You will need to be able to reflect on your own carer Lived Experience and be willing to utilise your experience to support and inform others.
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Lived experience as carer of a family member/friend who has accessed public mental health services
- Understanding of mental health peer support principles and ability to use peer support to provide hope, an understanding of self-care and a belief in recovery
- A strong commitment to high quality care
- The ability to work as part of a diverse team
- Very good communication and organisational skills
