We are undergoing a period of growth and change and, as such, we are seeking to bring on a talented Commercial Analyst to work closely with the founders and development team to deliver successful results.

The Role

This is a new role due to growth.

The Commercial Analyst role will support the commercial business case development for renewable technology projects in Australia. The main focus of this role is on analysing commercial and economic drivers of renewable projects.

The role comprises identifying, analysing and quantifying revenue streams for renewables, including but not limited to, merchant power prices, green certificates, Ancillary Services (FCAS), future revenue streams and portfolio benefits. In addition to that, challenges regarding curtailment and marginal loss factor (MLF) will be of key importance.

The position requires a high affinity for numerical work and handling of a large amount of industry specific data, and presentation of asset and portfolio metrics and how these sit within the industry benchmarks.

Reporting to our MD, your responsibilities will include:

  • Collect, prepare, and analyse all relevant data needed as input for project models with special focus on power prices, market value of construction and operational cost of renewables / captured prices, curtailments, MLFs and ancillary services and subsidy schemes.
  • Understanding the changes in the regulatory framework and energy market designs and quantifying the effects of those changes on revenues with modelling and quantitative skills.
  • Evaluate and understand the long-term revenue streams for Renewables (incl. PPA, wholesale prices, specifics of LTESA and LIS support schemes, FCAS markets, LGCs/REGOs, etc.).
  • Work with the wider Renewable Energy team to deliver clear and insightful reporting and analysis of our commercial performance to drive commercial decision making. 
  • Provide commercial and analytical support to the wider Renewable Energy team as required.
  • Detailed understanding of the National Electricity Market power grid and ability to perform analysis.
  • Support in modelling and analysing the revenue streams for batteries.
  • Supporting PPA negotiations, valuations and routes to market.
  • Support in defining optimal monetisation strategies and assisting the team in doing adequate risk analysis (e.g. value at risk, conditional value at risk, other risk measures).
  • Ad hoc market analysis reports in case of market disruptions.
  • Supporting capital raise activities alongside market-leading advisors in financial, legal, and tax which may include:
    • Project management
    • Financial modelling, project modelling
    • Assisting with data-room preparation
  • Reporting to investors in relation to project progress, key milestones

Essential Skills for this role

  • 5 years relevant experience
  • Degree in an analysis / numerical subject, preferably Engineering, Economics, Statistics or Mathematics and/or appropriate professional experience.
  • Understanding of or willingness and enthusiasm to learn economics of renewable energies (e.g. MLF development, FCAS, Causer Pays Procedure and revenues from support mechanisms).
  • Understanding of energy market modelling and pricing structures.
  • Strong analytical and data management skills.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in both office and financial management.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and collaborate with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to supervise and motivate.
  • Problem-solving mindset and the ability to make informed decisions independently.
  • Self-motivated to seek out and generate opportunities to improve business process
