Job description

The role:

This is a senior role within the Department of Health (DoH) Communications team requiring advanced knowledge and experience of media and communications and the ability to lead activities which have a positive effect on organisational outcomes and strategic objectives within and beyond the team.

The Senior Communications Officer plays a key role in the development, delivery and evaluation of internal and external communications for DoH, including pro-active and reactive media, communications strategies, stakeholder relations and issues management. 

Note: - Please refer to the Statement of Duties for all the selection criteria of this position to address in your application.In this role you will:

  • Provide specialist media and communications advice and activities to ensure information about services and programs across Health are communicated to key stakeholders and the Tasmanian public.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide high level communication support and direction to stakeholders and senior Executives across Health.
  • Build proactive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including media organisations, executives, clinical leaders and managers to assess and respond to a varied range of media and communication requirements within a busy and reactive environment.

Details of Appointment

Fixed term full time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 5 June 2026.

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary: $124,371 - $130,905 per annum. Our Employer 11% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
  1. crimes of violence
  2. sex related offences
  3. serious drug offences
  4. crimes involving dishonesty
  1. Identification check
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
