We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Compliance Specialist at our Perth CBD office, on an 8-Month Maximum Term basis.


About this role

As the Senior Compliance Specialist you will ensure Western Power meets its compliance obligations through an effective implementation of the organisation's legislative compliance management framework and associated policies and procedures.

  • Monitor the external market for potential additions or changes to legislative and regulatory obligations, notify key internal stakeholders and facilitate the preparation and delivery of Western Powers responses.
  • Prioritise compliance actions by risk assessing legislative obligations, to assist Western Power to appropriately schedule and allocate resources.
  • Support Functions in the preparation of compliance reports (if any) that form part of the legislative obligations for that Function and drive consistency and high standards in the preparation of documentation (across the business) that is provided to external stakeholders.
  • Allocate (and periodically review) Function and Area accountabilities (‘Obligation Owners') for compliance with legislative obligations and engage with Obligation Owners to ensure their awareness of their accountability for compliance with those legislative obligations.
  • Initiate the development (and review) of compliance assurance programs for each Function then facilitate and monitor the completion and implementation of compliance assurance programs by Functions. Compliance assurance programs should form the basis of the Executive Assurance Reports and may be made up of compliance plans, audit results and other inputs.
  • Determine where audits are required to assess the adequacy of Compliance Plans (specifically the controls identified within them) in mitigating legislative compliance risk and ensure that they are scheduled and undertaken by the relevant experts.
  • Liaise with customer complaints handling personnel to review customer complaints data in relation to breaches of compliance obligations. Analyse the data and provide recommendations as to compliance related improvements or corrective actions.
  • Facilitate and draft quarterly Assurance Reports and other reports on the Western Powers compliance framework to senior management and the Board to assist in the development of a leader-led compliance culture and appropriate resourcing of compliance needs within the business.
  • Provide advice and guidance in response to general compliance queries and more generally analyse, interpret and advise the business (and its contractors) on all aspects of its compliance obligations


About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • A Bachelor's Degree qualification in Commerce, Law or other relevant discipline
  • Broad and extensive knowledge and expertise with demonstrated experience in compliance, auditing or investigative position gained in a highly regulated environment.
  • Change management experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills with ability to effectively communicate with different stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to build relationships and networks.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Commercial experience in a large corporate environment.
