The JB Hi-Fi New Zealand business comprises 20 stores and a growing online and commercial business. - 3 days/ week dedicated to the growing JB Hi-Fi NZ business & 2 days/week working with the Group’s experienced Australian based legal team to support the market-leading JB Hi-Fi Australia business.
About The Role
We have an opportunity for an experienced New Zealand qualified Corporate/Commercial Lawyer to join our team. Located on Auckland’s North Shore, you will be part of the business’s senior leadership group and report to the Group General Counsel in Melbourne with a dotted line to the Managing Director of the JB Hi-Fi NZ business. You will be responsible for providing day to day legal support to all areas of the JB Hi-Fi New Zealand business, whilst also supporting the Australian legal team to provide advice to the JB Hi-Fi Australia business approximately 2 days week. The Group will assist you in becoming qualified to practice in Australia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partnering with the business to reduce risk and ensure legal compliance.
- Providing legal advice on all aspects of the business (other than property and employment matters), including consumer law (such as marketing compliance and consumer guarantees), privacy and intellectual property issues.
- Contract drafting and negotiation.
- Working with the business on legal and operational policies and procedures.
- Drafting and delivering legal compliance training.
- Providing company secretarial/governance support for the JB Hi-Fi NZ companies.
About you
- Current NZ practising certificate with 8 + years post qualification experience in corporate/commercial law, preferably with some time in a top-tier firm.
- Flexible, adaptable and able to articulate information clearly, whilst influencing senior stakeholders, building relationships and managing expectations.
- Eye for technical detail, but with broad commercial experience and the ability to provide pragmatic legal advice in a commercial context
- Outstanding analytical and contract drafting/negotiation skills.
- Experience in advising on consumer law.
- Ability to work independently to tight deadlines with minimal supervision, managing multiple matters in a high-paced environment.
