Job DescriptionOur Enterprise Technology and System Integration team brings together skills in intelligent automation, data engineering and software integration to help our clients align their technology capabilities with their strategic and operational objectives. We also draw on KPMG's extensive national and global resources, adopting a multidisciplinary approach to help unlock the full potential of existing and new technology investments.We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join the Data Migration team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing ETLs on Azure Synapse to facilitate the migration of data from customers' on-premise applications to new SaaS-based systems. This role requires strong technical expertise in ETL processes, and Azure Data Factory / Synapse, as well as excellent problem-solving and communication skills.Your new opportunityAs a member of our Technology and System Integration team, the Senior Data Migration Engineer will play a crucial role through the following responsibilities:
  • Work with functional experts to understand Data Migration requirements and translate into data engineering and data analytics functionality.
  • Design and implement data integrations, pipelines, and algorithms to extract and transform data from various sources into a format ready to load into target systems.
  • Design and development of data profiling tools to analyse and understand the structure, quality, and integrity of data prior to migration.
  • Implement reconciliation reports to verify and validate data accuracy post-migration, identifying discrepancies and ensuring consistency between source and target systems.
  • Aid in scoping, estimation, and task planning for assigned projects.
  • Perform testing of ETL processes and data profiling tools, debugging issues and refining operations based on feedback and requirements.
  • Document the ETL processes, data profiling methods, and reconciliation procedures to maintain clear and accessible records for future reference and compliance.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest tools, technologies, and best practices in data engineering to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of work.

  • Proven experience in ETL development with Azure Synapse or Azure Data Factory and Azure SQL Database.
  • Strong skills in programming languages such as Python, and SQL.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and technologies.
  • Comfortable in an Agile working environment and using Scrum project management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues during the migration process and optimize data workflows.
  • High attention to detail to accurately implement ETL processes and generate precise reconciliation reports.
  • Experience of building ETL solutions against COTS or SaaS based applications, such as TechnologyOne, SAP, Oracle ERP or Microsoft Dynamics is desirable.
