The Senior Desktop Standard Operating Environment Engineer describes the function which manages and maintains the Services Australia and shared partner agencies desktop Standard Operating Environments including design, configuration, deployment, technical security and operation ofdesktop related components.
The Senior Desktop Standard Operating Environment Engineer works under the limited direction of senior staff. They exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy, and in the application of practices and procedures. Decision making is substantially dependent on judgement, skills and knowledge. They manage and organises their own work in the context of competing priorities, including contributing to business planning, changes in workplace practices and business improvement strategies.

- Provide third level support for users and managed personal computing devices.
- Provide broad technical support for project build, test and solution deployment activities.
- Monitor, tune and maintain ICT software components and perform system testing.
- Liaise with the infrastructure team in the design, procurement and deployment of hardware and related assets.
- Schedule and perform regular maintenance and updating of supported products.
- Perform technical operations for ICT solutions.
- Maintain technical system information in service tools.
- Perform daily monitoring activities.
- Execute technical change management.
- Prepare a range of technical and corporate documentation.
- Escalate issues that adversely impacts on policy, performance and/or service.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure effective and timely implementation of business solutions.
Desirable Criteria * Minimum three plus years experience as a Windows Desktop SOE Engineer in enterprise environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager including SCCM, Intune, Active Directory – Group Policy Management, RBAC, AppLocker and WDA.
- Strong Scripting ability (PowerShell, VB Script).
- Experience with facilitating large and enterprise scale software deployments, upgrades, and enhancements of environment wide configurations including user policies, device policies, security policies and automation scripts through enterprise grade endpoint management platforms.
- Experience in VPN technologies and Active Directory – Group Policy Management, RBAC, M365 Security Products (Microsoft Defender).
