Job description

As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.


Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

IT Applications and Information Management is responsible for the management and delivery of all departmental business systems, business platforms, their integration and Information Management which are critical in the evolution of the department’s internal technology capability. The branch leads and manages the provision of application management; integration management; Information Management; level 2 support for specialist systems; system training; vendor and contract management; and service reporting.  In addition, are the key integrator and escalation point for the delivery of operational services from our service providers and suppliers to meet business objectives and organisational priorities.  


Reporting to the Principal Advisor [Power Platforms], you will work collaboratively with the Principal Advisor [Power Platform], and business areas to identify opportunities to conduct technology trials and Proof of Concepts. You will liaise with customers to understand and document their desired outcomes and lead the development of Proof of Concepts using technology in the Microsoft Power Platform environment. You will deliver work in M365 Power Platform applications, and will have strong applied knowledge of Power Platform functional and technical capabilities and experience delivering solutions based on customer needs. Your role will include the investigation and implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) productivity solutions and forms automation for the department, and you will work closely with stakeholders to ensure that the solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements.  

Highly desirable requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in the following technologies Power Apps, Power Automate and how to integrate them with other (Microsoft) applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in setting up or supporting Power Platform support services, capabilities and governance processes and best practices.
  • Sound knowledge of AI technologies including Microsoft Copilot.
  • Microsoft Certification in Microsoft Power Platform and/or Dynamics 365.

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Manage discovery and analysis by engaging subject matter experts and stakeholders, to ensure that customer requirements are understood and translating business requirements, to inform solution design based on configuring Microsoft Power Platform solutions and apps.
  • Provide seamless integration with third party Applications and services, including the implementation of AI solutions and forms automation to increase workplace productivity and process flows.
  • Provide advice, recommendation and prepare supporting products based on expertise and experience in the technology domains to create application enhancements, custom user experiences, system integrations, data conversions, custom process automation, and custom visualisations
  • Implement designs in collaboration with stakeholders to meet best practice and organisational legislation, policies, standards and branding, and ensure traceability of requirements throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Develop, maintain and collaborate with stakeholders to capture and share knowledge, support common expectations, and ensure that solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements and optimise user experience. 
  • Identify, create, and deliver artefacts for knowledge and capability uplift to stakeholders, including training on AI and Microsoft Power Platform and supporting artefacts.
  • Define and develop innovative methods to manage electronic documents to ensure discoverability, accessibility, interoperability, security, integrity, safety and availability.
  • Document completed work and supporting material, and develop document library templates, configuration documents, training materials and procedure manuals to meet organisational and operational needs.
