The nib Newcastle Knights are an Australian professional Rugby League Football Club based in Newcastle, New South Wales. The Knights compete in Australasia's rugby league competition, the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership. We are owned by The Wests Group Australia, Newcastle's owned and operated (not-for-profit) membership-based organisation.

Join our dynamic Group Marketing and Media team in a senior full-time design and leadership role focused on creating compelling digital and customer-centric experiences. We're seeking a conceptual thinker and experienced designer with a passion for both design and digital innovation.
In this role (80% digital | 20% traditional), you'll be hands-on in developing engaging content, including online assets, motion graphics, social media posts, ads, and email campaigns. You'll contribute to diverse projects, from campaign ideation to branding and UX/UI, ensuring high-quality outcomes that address key business objectives.

As a Senior Digital Designer, you will...
- Design practical, user-centred digital experiences using modern design tools and methodologies, prioritising usability, accessibility, and systems thinking
- Collaborate with designers, developers, writers, managers, clients and users to create superior digital experiences
- Work closely with our Group Chief Marketing Officer & Head of Marketing on strategy and product development. An ability to give and take constructive feedback is essential.
- Take responsibility for UX and design strategy, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our clients and their audiences through evidence-based best practice design decisions.
- Conduct user research activities and develop real-world UX strategies.
- Use your excellent communication skills to share your knowledge with other members of the team, contributing to the personal development of others as they contribute to yours.
- Develop and ensure that projects worked on are well designed, meet the brief provided, are on message and contribute to the Group achieving overall marketing objectives.
- Manage quality control throughout the design process.
- Manage a small team (2-3 people), oversee designers' outputs, and monitor the design process.
- Develop and maintain open communication and foster strong and successful relationships with key internal stakeholders to enable the effective development and execution of creative designs.
- Work with the marketing and media team on a range of projects, ensuring work is delivered on time and dispatched in the required format.
- Stay up to date on the latest design trends and share new insights with the team.
- A creative at heart but also have a solid commercial understanding of how D2C brands work
Skills & Abilities
- 5+ years in design/art direction with a proven track record
- Creative leadership experience, or the tenacity and ability to begin doing so
- Strong communication, organisational skills and attention to detail are essential
- A portfolio of work demonstrating a keen eye for detail and a high level of understanding of design and UX fundamentals
- Experience developing UI design
- Superior digital design skills including animation design skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of Figma, including auto-layouts and confidence to lead the team in this space
- Excellent working knowledge of Mac based design software, including the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Animate, After Effects and Acrobat Pro, Dreamweaver, Muse, Premier Pro)
- Confidence to share and present ideas internally and externally
- Ability to manage and handle multiple tasks along with outstanding problem-solving skills
- Video content, motion graphics and editing skills are advantageous
- Knowledge of Salesforce Marketing Cloud is highly desirable
- AWARD School, Ad School or any other creative courses are a plus, but not necessary.
