A Senior Assistant takes on the duties, responsibilities conditions and requirements of the assistant position description, and is involved in our community and spiritual life programs.
In addition, this Senior Assistant role includes responsibility for monitoring and maintaining Workplace Health and Safety.
Other Responsibilities & Duties
Leadership & Teamwork:
Senior Assistants can exercise initiative in organising the assistance of members with a disability. They check their own work and work of others, providing guidance to less experienced staff. Share knowledge and information with team members. Can work with minimal supervision, knowing when to escalate issues to leaders.
Communication:
Senior Assistants enable members' voices and demonstrate how to adapt their communication style to meet people's needs. They explore and clarify what meaningful membership means for members. They have the necessary skills to document and resolve complaints and conflicts in the household.
Relationships:
Senior Assistants model mutually transforming relationships with members with an intellectual disability. They are hospitable to all members of the community. Senior assistants facilitate and share knowledge of members with disabilities - their plans, goals, needs, barriers, and enablers. They may require specialised training to develop their understandings of service delivery and of other supports available.
Compliance to Government Standards:
Senior Assistants adhere to and have access to the organisation policies & procedures and all relevant government legislation and relevant standards (available through Centro-Assist). They follow detailed and precise work procedures. Evaluate their own work to ensure quality and safety standards are met. Seek support from leaders and other assistants to remedy noncompliance.
Reporting, Documentation & Administration:
Adhere to reporting and administrative requirements. Identify critical incidents in the workplace and report these to the leaders. Assist with implementing agreed changes within their work area. Use and guide others in the use of communications and technology systems for reporting and administrative purposes, including service and billing records.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor degree or above, in a relevant field.
Required Experience:
2 years in disability support, including experience as a Senior Assistant with WHS responsibility.
Required Skills:
Proven ability to provide effective disability support in emotionally charged environments.
