Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer - Energy Operations
Location: 87 Adelaide Terrace Perth - Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Schedule: Monday to Friday - occasional site travel required that may change the worked days.
Reporting to : Principal Engineer
Are you ready to contribute to a transformative journey towards zero emissions by 2030? Fortescue is seeking a skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a key member of the Energy Operations department, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the sustainability of our operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, assess, plan, and manage power system operational risks.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting and issue resolution within power generation, distribution, and transmission systems.
- Develop and implement specialist engineering solutions to ensure technical asset integrity.
- Create generation dispatch plans and contribute operational constraints into the energy model.
- Develop operational guidelines to uphold safe and consistent practices.
- Review and perform network risk assessments for planned outages.
- Support the development and maintenance of operational emergency plans.
- Contribute to the implementation of standards and industry best practices.
- Provide technical support to other business operations teams regarding power system operations.
- Offer engineering leadership and support for site-specific maintenance plans.
- Manage power system administration activities for consistent system development, installation, maintenance, and operation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Proven experience in the specification, design, installation, and optimization of electrical power systems.
- Strong technical aptitude with problem-solving skills.
- Experience in power system analysis, fault investigations, and protection system modeling.
- Practical experience in the mining or utilities sector, particularly with power generation and transmission systems.
- Experience in project administration, development, and delivery.
- Strategic understanding of power plant operation and maintenance, including power management system control.
- Alignment with Fortescue's values, commitment to zero harm, and environmental stewardship.
Desired Experience:
- Experience in network or system operation.
- Knowledge of decarbonization strategies for power systems.
- Experience with transmission or distribution networks.
- Familiarity with network analysis, planning, and integration of renewable generation or storage technology.
- Experience with thermal generation, protection, and control.
- Knowledge of primary substation plant and equipment.
- Understanding of industry regulations, codes, standards, and best practices.
