This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the NIAA delegate.
Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 18 months, with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of three years.
A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

The Opportunity
We are looking for motivated and passionate people to fill a number of roles in engagement teams across a range of locations in Victoria and Tasmania. You will be working in diverse teams, engaging and partnering with First Nations communities, leadership and service providers to deliver outcomes in line with community aspirations on behalf of the Australian Government.
We offer challenging, interesting, and stimulating work, connecting across all levels of government and working directly with the community. The occupants of these roles will work on implementing and delivering a range of government initiatives and commitments that support and improve the wellbeing of First Nations People in Victoria and Tasmania.
As a Senior Engagement Officer, your key responsibilities are:
support local development and high-quality delivery of place-based initiatives that drive improvements in client wellbeing and enhanced system coordination
work with our Grant Management Unit to assure NIAA investments across multiple program types are effectively contributing to the Closing the Gap Targets and Priority Reforms
develop and maintain internal and external relationships with key partners, providing appropriate advice and managing the resolution of emerging issues or complaints
drive and develop new opportunities in consultation with community and partners that respond to local challenges and aspirations
broker mutually beneficial relationships across boundaries to link communities and partners
assist in local coordination and act as a point of contact for the Government’s commitment to deliver the Uluru Statement from the Heart in full
draft a range of written products, tailored to your audience that are evidence based and consider intelligence formed through your engagement with communities and partners
conduct research and analysis on complex matters within area of expertise
lead or contribute to project management activities including the development of team goals, strategies and work plans for the business area
lead, support and mentor Engagement Officers to deliver the NIAA's work program within the Agency's Key Performance Measures and quality indicators.

draft high quality and concise advice briefs, presentations and reports for a range of audiences and be able to support co-design processes
work autonomously with limited supervision
manage and respond quickly to competing priorities and emerging issues
effectively supervise a small number of staff and provide constructive management with a focus on delivering business needs and capability development.

Essential: Must have a current motor vehicle driver’s license and be able to undertake intra and interstate travel.
In our operating environment across NIAA, staff work closely with community members and develop intimate understandings of the regional and local needs and aspirations of Indigenous people. This regional and place-based focus is at the core of our work and these Senior Engagement Officer positions require a strong level of engagement.

You will require cultural competency, including:

The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check.
