Our merit-based recruitment practices are founded on building diversity by fostering an inclusive, flexible, and equitable workplace.ABOUT THE ROLEThis position is accountable for the provision of support to students with learning differences and learning needs in VCE VM and VCE classrooms and other activities within the Senior Secondary Program. This support will assist young people to overcome educational barriers and strengthen their ability to engage in all aspects of education, increasing opportunity for educational attainment. The Education Engagement Support Officer position supports the educational services being provided to students. Supervision of students is an integral part of this position both individually and in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with the Teacher.As a Education Engagement Support Officer, your key responsibilities include:
  • Support students in the classroom by working one-to-one with students or in small groups to assist students to engage with the content and reinforce and clarify lessons. Duties include:
  • Assist to maintain a supportive learning environment
  • Provide a safe and secure environment to all students and role model a calm and consistent approach.
  • Build rapport with students.
  • Language and literacy support.
  • Numeracy support
  • Emotional regulation support
  • Implementation of intervention strategies to manage challenges.
  • Assist in the implementation of Learning Access Plans for students and help monitor their progress.
  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities, including excursions.
  • Support students with emotional or behavioural challenges to develop their social skills.
  • Adjust classroom activities, assessments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce Learning Access Plans and Individual Learning Plans.
  • Follow standardised practices and/or methods with adequate supervision.
ABOUT YOUYou are a highly motivated individual with well-developed skills experience & qualifications in:
  • A relevant qualification at post-secondary level, including education support and counselling and/or social work or equivalent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated trauma awareness.
  • Sensitivity towards and understanding of young people with learning difficulties and differences.
  • Experience in providing learning support to a diverse range of young people, including those experiencing neurodiversity.
  • Experience in working collaboratively and adopting a teamwork approach.
  • Sound language, literacy, and numeracy skills
  • Very good communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of educational instruction and the ability to apply them to the individual learning needs of a student.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the educational needs of students including the capacity to support school improvement and curriculum initiatives,
  • The demonstrated ability to support flexible and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, focusing on applied learning.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to engage and work positively with vulnerable and/or at-risk young people using a strengths-based approach.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Individual Learning Plans and Learning Access Plans
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Well-developed organisational and time management skills with the ability to plan workload, prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated resilience and ability to adapt to changing environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to ensure the school is a Child Safe environment
