Where you'll be working 
Health Protection NSW works to prevent exposure to, and minimise impact of, infectious and environmental hazards. HPNSW works closely with public health units in local health districts in the development, implementation and evaluation activities to protect public health.

About this role 
The role of Health Protection NSW is to prevent and control threats to health from communicable diseases and the environment which is achieved through a range of activities involving multiple disciplines and agencies.
 
Health Protection NSW is building its epidemiological capacity. The epidemiologist is responsible for providing high-level epidemiological and public health expertise and insight to support the work of Health Protection NSW. The epidemiologist will work closely with policy teams, data analysts, and surveillance experts to ensure the appropriate synthesis and interpretation of complex communicable disease and environmental health data.
 
The Senior Epidemiologist will also assist and advise HPNSW executive on interpretation and use of population health information.  They will be flexible in the approach to resources allocation and to changing needs of HPNSW stakeholders, working in partnership to ensure service needs are met.

Selection Criteria 

  1. Demonstrated expertise in the management, analysis, interpretation and reporting of complex epidemiological data.
  2. Postgraduate qualifications in epidemiology (or equivalent) and extensive experience, knowledge and skills with large data collections and analysis of sensitive or health-related data.
  3. Proven experience and knowledge of contemporary data management principles and practices, including tools and techniques to manage data quality and security.
  4. Demonstrated experience in epidemiological data analysis and be adept in the use of programming languages, preferably R and SAS.
  5. Demonstrated competence in interpersonal skills, consultation and effective communication with technical and non-technical personnel.
  6. Demonstrated high level of oral and written communication skills, including the preparation and delivery of project plans and reports.

COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy 
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
